OCTAVI 1G

Force sensing technology

The OCTAVI 1G is a completely new, force sensitive joystick. It gives you a connection with the aircraft that almost feels like mind control.

Tailored ergonomics

The OCTAVI 1G was designed with its actual environment in mind:
a desk, without turbulence, vibrations or acceleration.
This is why we call it the 1G.

A new level of connection

1G Force Sensing Technology
Realistic and Intuitive
Proprioceptive Force Cueing
Graphic illustrating the realistic and intuitive control of the Octavi 1G flight simulation joystick
In a real aircraft, the force applied on the controls is the main feedback cue. By directly measuring the force of your hand as an input, the OCTAVI 1G recreates that natural connection between you and the aircraft. It feels similar to a force-feedback yoke or stick, but has a much more ergonomic and convenient form factor that was designed for desks.
Smooth and Precise
Continuous Linear Response
Graphic illustrating the smooth and precise control of the Octavi 1G flight simulation joystick
The OCTAVI 1G’s force sensor is smooth and linear across its entire input range. There is no discontinuity across the axis centers, just like in a real aircraft. This separates the 1G from almost all conventional joysticks and yokes. As a result, flying precision maneuvers suddenly feels like it does in the real world.
Natural Feel
Stable Control Loop

By emulating the principles used to control real-world aircraft and eliminating elements that get in the way of a natural control loop, the OCTAVI 1G enables you to fly procedures and maneuvers very much like in a real plane.

Tailored Ergonomics

Purpose-built for
serious flight simming

The OCTAVI 1G was designed from scratch. From the beginning, we kept its actual environment in mind: a desk, without turbulence, vibrations or acceleration. This is why we call it the 1G.

Clean-Sheet Design
By leveraging our force sensing technology and designing the device from scratch, we were able to create a joystick that is made for flight simming from the ground up instead of emulating designs found in real aircraft. This results in a device that performs like nothing else on the market.

Purpose-Built Ergonomics
The OCTAVI 1G places the requirements of a desk-type setting at the center of its design philosophy. Unlike most joysticks, your wrist is fully at rest at the base of the device. This makes the 1G a precise tool while being comfortable to use at the same time.

Compact by Design
Our new approach strips away all unnecessary elements. This also means that the 1G is very compact without making any compromise on performance. You won’t need to build a sim pit around it either, since it was made for your desk.

Force Sensing Technology
The patented force sensor in the OCTAVI 1G registers every small force exerted on it directly. Inputs happen near instantly. This helps both when making small corrections but also when executing fast maneuvers.

The 1G does not need any springs or cams to function. This eliminates break-out forces around the neutral point, resulting in continuously smooth inputs across the entire range.

Magnetic Field Sensing
The OCTAVI 1G features a spring loaded Z-axis that can be rotated 10° in either direction. It is aligned with the grip’s longitudinal axis and it is digitized using hall sensor technology.

The centering force, friction and resistance are designed to have similar characteristics as typical aircraft rudder pedals, scaled and adapted to the biomechanical properties of the human wrist. By having a small amount of friction, pitch and roll inputs can be made while holding a constant rudder input.

Top Buttons
On the top of the 1G’s grip, there are three buttons and a trim switch. They can be freely assigned. A typical button assignment is using the switch as the pitch trim, the top right button (red ring) as AP disconnect and assigning two different camera angles to the two bottom buttons.

Base Buttons
The OCTAVI 1G has a total of twelve freely assignable buttons on its base. All of them have an LED that can be assigned to indicate a given function.

For example, you could use the front buttons R1-R3 of the 1G to switch your landing, taxi and strobe lights and let them light up to indicate wheter a light is on or off.

Dual sliders
The two sliders on the left and right side of the OCTAVI 1G are placed symmetrically and can be assigned freely. This enables both left and right-handed use of the joystick.

Typically, one slider is assigned to the throttle while the other one can be used for flaps, mixture or propeller pitch.

Compatibility
The OCTAVI 1G is a USB HID device. This type of USB device is recognized by virtually any operating system and flight simulator. All you need to do in the flight simulator is assign the axes and button to their respective functions.

The LED status indication on the base buttons can be controlled using our plug-in or third-party software. We are continuously working with our partners to add integration and ready-made profiles.
